About the event
In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, Strugglebeard Bakery is proud to welcome Anjanette L. Young — a nationally recognized voice in mental health advocacy, racial equity, and police reform — for an evening of storytelling, reflection, and community connection.
Anjanette's memoir Past the Pain is more than a book — it's a roadmap for anyone who has ever had to find themselves on the other side of something hard. In 2019, Anjanette endured a traumatic wrongful police raid on her Chicago home, an experience that could have broken her but instead ignited a lifelong commitment to advocacy and healing. She went on to found the I AM HER Foundation, an organization dedicated to breaking down financial barriers to mental health care for Black women and girls, and has since become one of Chicago's most powerful and compassionate public voices.
